The Golden Mile in Golden Gate Park SF

Seeking Volunteers to Paint Golden Gate Park

Help us transform the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park into one of San Francisco's largest art activations. Free for all!

During September and October, Paint the Void and Building 180, in partnership with Illuminate and San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, will be working with 10 muralists and community groups to transform JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park - all free for the public to enjoy! We will nee volunteers to work with our artists to help paint large-scale installations, beautify curbs and otherwise bring joy and allure to this 1.5-mile space in Golden Gate Park.

Golden Mile Project is a part of Promenade Play Days, a series of free installations and events appearing on the JFK Promenade over the next several months, and are part of a larger effort by Rec and Park and SFMTA to ensure safe, equitable access to Golden Gate Park. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors in April voted to keep a portion of the park’s main drag, John. F. Kennedy Drive, as a car-free promenade. These free temporary activations are meant to foster health, happiness, and social connection.

Other Installation in The Golden Mile Project will include:

  • Doggie Diner heads: Iconic Doggie Diner heads will be installed along JFK Drive between Conservatory Drive West and 6th Avenue.
  • Public pianos: Inspired by the Botanical Gardens’ Flower Piano, these public pianos, located on JFK at Conservatory Drive West and JFK between Stow Lake Drive and East 14th Avenue, will be there for everyone to play.
  • 100 chairs for socializing and relaxing
  • Some of our favorite new Burning Man Art Installations
  • And more!!
