SOLACII
Artist Representation, Project Management, Production, Installation Logistics & Build Lead
BY Tigre Bailando
The Solacii sculpture was created by artist Tigre Bailando of Los Angeles. It was installed in June 2019 and is scheduled to remain for a two-year period through June 2021. The 20-foot hollow sculpture is made of curving steel pipe and includes three faces and four arms welcoming those passing by. Artist Tigre Bailando states, “The Solacii is a mystical being that watches over the entire human experience, offering solace, hope, and inspiration.” The sculpture includes an opening in its base for visitors to stand within the piece. “The inner space serves as a sanctuary for people to gather, talk, and support each other.” The Downtown Fremont Rotational Public Art program is made possible by an Art Fund that was established in the Downtown and is financed through private development fees. The program focuses on showcasing exciting, interesting pieces of artwork to support the arts and create a sense of identity for this area. The first Downtown installation "Heartfullness," a sculpture by artist Katy Boynton, was on display from September 2015 through January 31, 2017. The second Downtown installation, "Space Glow," was a sculpture by local artists Patricia Vader of Martinez and Joe Bologna of Alamo and was on display from May 2017 through May 2019.
